The Landrum mens and womens teams picked up region wins over Whitmire this week.
Landrum and Whitmires men took to the hardwood on Tuesday in the Cardinal Cage, and those who came calling faded fast, with the home team rolling out the red carpet to the tune of 63-38.
“We played well in spurts, and defensively we were great,” said Lyn Smith, the head coach for Landrum. “Trent Carson had a great night scoring for us.”
Carson, who swiped seven steals and had nine assists, scored 19 points, and many of the other Cardinal players were also hot from the field. DeShaun Hall and Corey McDowell chipped in with 26 combined points. They were perfect from the line and Hall had seven assists while McDowell got up for 13 boards.
Landrum shot close to 40 percent from three-point range, with Brian Cash and Hall hitting two apiece. Austin Brown and Tyler Logan drained one each.
Smith said postgame that “it was a great team win.”
The Landrum Lady Cardinals won 52-32. Landrum coach Roy Parton had his team in fine form in the second half, as it outscored Whitmire 34-14.
Jordan Jenkins, Amber Whiteside and RosaRuth Parton finished in double figures. Jenkins and Whiteside had 12 each, and Parton had 10. She was the only player to hit a triple on the night.
The Lady Cards are now 5-0 in the region and play again tonight at Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville.
