A Saluda home was severely damaged by fire over the weekend.
The Saluda Fire and Rescue Department responded quickly to the home of Norma and Charlie Emory at 7:43 p.m. Saturday on L.M. Morgan Road.
Deputy Chief Zack Pace says the Emorys grandson, a junior firefighter with the department, saw smoke and phoned Pace directly so firefighters were on scene within three minutes of detecting the fire. The couple was not at home at the time of the fire.
Although the home was not a total loss, there was lots of smoke and heat damage to the entire home with floors burned out as well. Pace says the source of the fire was found in the basement. The Henderson County Fire Marshals Office is investigating what caused the fire.
The Green River and Blue Ridge Fire Departments assisted Saluda with the blaze.
An account has been set up at Macon Bank in Saluda to help the family with building supply costs. Donations can be sent to Macon Bank at 108 East Main Street, Saluda, N.C. 28773 or mailed to Macon Bank, P.O. Box 98, Saluda, N.C. 28773, attention: Angie Blackwell.
