Hearing on Cliffside plant Thursday
The N.C. Division of Air Quality is holding a public hearing on the proposed renewal of an existing air quality permit for Duke Energy’s Cliffside Steam Station in Rutherford County. The division says it received many comments requesting a public hearing. Each speaker will be allowed up to three minutes to comment on the preliminary decision to renew the existing permit. The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Chase High School. The Stop Cliffside Coalition and Clean Air Carolina also are planning to hold a “people’s hearing” in Charlotte on Thursday, January 14 at 6:30 p.m. Testimony provided at the event will be submitted to the division of air quality.
