Lady Wolverines split games

The Lady Wolverines played back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday and came away with a 56-46 win over Thomas Jefferson and a 62-42 defeat in a rescheduled game against Avery.
Against Thomas Jefferson on Friday, Melinda Morgan led Polk County with 15 points and seven rebounds. Kailey Russell contributed 13 points, followed by Brittany Phipps with 10.
Polk also got six points each from Ashley Lynch and Jamie Hrobak, five points from Cassidy Mazzilli, four from Haley Price, two from Sammy Mazzilli and one from Alyssa Montgomery.
Sammy Mazzilli led Polk with eight rebounds, and Price chipped in six rebounds to go with four steals and a team-high five assists.
On Saturday against Avery, Polk did not have any players in double figure scoring, but did get points from eight players.
Morgan led the Lady Wolverines with nine points, followed by Russell with seven and Price and Sammy Mazzilli with six each. Phipps and Hroback finished with five points each and Cassidy Mazzilli and Montgomery had two each.
Polk was led on the boards by Sammy Mazzilli and Phipps with six rebounds each, while Hrobak had five and Russell had four. Cassidy Mazilli, Price and Montgomery each had three steals.
Polk County is scheduled to play again tonight with a road game against conference opponent Owen. They return for a home game against rival Hendersonville on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
