George Alley, manager of Harmon Field, visited the Tryon Kiwanis Club on October 28 to update club members on the master plan for the community park.
Harmon Field was established in 1927 with a grant from the Harmon Foundation. It contains 47 acres of playing fields, tennis courts, playground, equestrian facilities, a log cabin, walking track, putting green, picnic area, and outdoor gym.
The greatest challenge is funding capital improvements. Current needs are repair or replacement of the tennis courts and updating the outdoor gym. A swimming pool is on the list of desired additions to the park.
The Tryon Kiwanis Club now has a website at www.tryonkiwanisclub.org. If you are interested in what the club is doing, visit the website and consider coming to a club meeting on Wednesdays at noon at the Congregational Church, 210 Melrose Avenue in Tryon.
