Carson offers workshop on perspective in Saluda
Published 3:35 pm Thursday, January 7, 2010
Saluda artist Jim Carson will offer a workshop Friday through Sunday, January 22 to 24, entitled Getting the Perspective Right.
Carson gives outdoor workshops through out the southeast entitled Painting Fast and Loose, Eliminating the Unnecessary, with the aim of seeing large shapes and applying the paint quickly and confidently.
However, Carson has added a new twist for this workshop. Since the key to painting fast and loose with confidence is to have your drawing accurate at the beginning, Carson will be joined by Chris Sherry, an AIA architect from Atlanta Ga., who teaches perspective at Johns Creek Art Center and Quinlan Visual Art Center in Atlanta.
Sherry will conduct the first day of the workshop, which will consist entirely of drawing. In the next two days Carson will teach the application of these drawing skills to achieve loose and spontaneous paintings.
The workshop will be held in Carsons studio, located above the Saluda Grade Caf in Saluda.
Carson will do daily demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday and there will be a critique of the days work at the end of each day.
There will be a get acquainted gathering at Carsons studio on Thursday night, January 21.
