BRCA’s Running Club wins at Paris Mtn. Race

Once again, Blue Ridge Christian Academy won the Fit’s Cool School Challenge Award at the Paris Mountain Road Race held at Furman University on December 12.

The Fit’s Cool School Challenge is part of the Greenville Track Club’s Stride Club program.&bsp; It awards prize money to schools with the highest number of participants based on the size of the school. BRCA earned $250 for its win.

The sub-freezing temperatures did not keep BRCA’ Running Club members from performing exceptionally well in the race.

They brought home a total of six individual awards.&bsp; Maddie Dentler, 4th grade student at BRCA, won first place in the 5K Female 9 and under age group. Kaylee Salle, 9th grade student, won first place in the 5K Female 10 – 14 age group.

Karen Canup and Rick Heavner, teachers at BRCA, finished first in their age groups as well.&bsp; Phil Salle and Luke Schneider, 10th grade students, also brought home awards for placing in their age groups. &bsp;

Two younger members of BRCA’s Running Club participated in their first 5K.&bsp; They were Sydney Dentler, 1st grade, and Seth Barbare, 2nd grade. &bsp;

The Running Club members will begin to prepare in February for the next race in the Fit’s Cool School Challenge, Reedy River Run.&bsp;&bsp; Some will tackle the 1 mile kids Marathon while others will set their sites on finishing the 5K and 10K races.
