Two players from Landrum High School were among those selected for the mens and womens All-tournament teams for Landrums Battle at the Border Shootout last week.

All-tournament team awards were won by Cardinals Jordan Jenkins, a junior, and DeShaun Hall, a senior.

Landrums 10th Annual Battle at the Border Shootout was an affair to remember for the home fans.

The tournament was won, on the mens side, by Spartanburg Christian Academy. Landrum lost to the Warriors in its first contest of the tournament, which goes for both men and women.

Then, both host teams came back in the double elimination format with wins in the second round, although they fell short of a consolation trophy.

In the third round on Wednesday, the Landrum mens team fell 73-63 to Chapman in a battle for third place in the tournament.

The Cardinals, playing without starter Trent Carson, got off to a slow start, training 15-8 after one quarter and 39-25 at halftime. Landrum was led in scoring by Hall with 28 points, followed by Corey McDowell with 17.

Landrum, now 11-3 overall, rallied with 23 points in the final quarter, but it was not enough to close the gap. The Cardinals are set to resume region play tonight against Southside Christian.

In the womens action, Landrum faced Fort Mill in the third round and lost 44-32. The Lady Cardinals were led by Jenkins 16 points, while Elizabeth Edmundson and Rosaruth Parton each contributed eight points. Landrum fell to 7-5 on the season.

Sixteen teams participated in total, eight mens teams and eight womens teams. Those teams were: Landrum men and women, Spartanburg Christian Academy men and women; Chesnee women; Fort Mill men and women, Chapman men; Union County men; Blue Ridge women; Woodruff women; Cherokee women; Broome men; Blacksburg men; Riverside men and East Rutherford women.

Cardinal athletic director John Cann gave all credit for the Shootouts organization to Landrums Lyn Smith, the mens head coach.

Cann added that due to the scheduling of this years tournament, attendance may not have been as much as it it landed on a weekend, as it usually does.
