Appreciate all who worked to stop towns annexation

To the Editor:
We appreciate the true fairness that the Tryon Daily Bulletin has shown in printing the annexation letters that we have sent them. This is something that Jeff Byrd is to be commended for especially considering that our views do differ from his.
We consider members of CAFA to be citizens that are against forced annexation. These individual members should not be labeled for what any of the leadership of the CAFA organization may have done to anger the city officials or the newspaper. Many of us found ourselves being annexed and the CAFA group had already been established and invited us to join the lawsuits in behalf of our property rights.
It is important to note that the first lawsuit found that the proposed annexation was not fit to stand up in court. This lawsuit stopped a poor annexation from taking place. Had that annexation taken place, it could have prompted numerous potential lawsuits costing the town money they do not have so for this we should all be thankful.
F.K. McFarland set the tone of comments for the second annexation hearings in a respectful manner and all comments following toward the town officials were respectful. Fred Gerdes should be commended for his hard work in helping the town even have a public city forum for this election. Tommy Melton showed a nice gesture by the county in his willingness to moderate this town forum.
We are appreciative of the citizens of Tryon for electing Wim Woody and Doug Arbogast and ending the forced annexation for Tryon.
Ongoing efforts to change the states annexation laws have been going on for almost a decade by several legislators and Cathy Heath of Stop NC Annexation and Doug Aitken and Tony Tetterton of Fair Annexation Coalition.
