Allan Chase Boas

Allan Chase Boas, 98, of Atlanta and formerly of Tryon, passed away on December 17, 2009. He was born in Farmington, Conn., on September 17, 1911, the eldest son of Herbert Allan Boas and Marguerite Chase Holcombe, and a stepson of John Marshall Holcombe Jr. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of over 52 years, Anne Belser Boas; brothers Robert W. Boas and Herbert A. Boas Jr.; and sisters Gloria Barlow and Ada Chase Caswell.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served stateside during WWII as an aerial photographer. A former insurance agent with Aetna Life & Casualty, he retired in 1974 and moved from So. Hadley, Mass. to Tryon, where he enjoyed photography, gardening, cooking, travel and reading.
He is survived by his son, Robert A. Boas of Atlanta, and daughter, Caroline H. Chase of Conway, Mass.; his brother, John M. Holcombe III of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren. Taylor C. Boas of Notre Dame, Ind., and Heidi H. Boas of Washington, D.C., and a great grandson, Julian Oliver Boas.
A memorial service to celebrate the long and full life of Allan Chase Boas will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon, at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either The Polk County Community Foundation (f/b/o Allan C. and Anne B. Boas Scholarship Fund), 255 So.
