Polk Central third, fourth and fifth grade art students in Ms. Becky Lewiss art class recently used the elements of art to create Christmas tree collages. The students, like all artists, used the elements of line, color, value, space, shape, texture and form to create triangular artwork that was then put together to form large Christmas trees. The students also used the principles of design, which are balance, emphasis, harmony, variety, unity, proportion and movement/rhythm to decide how to put these elements together. Though the main emphasis of this assignment was line variety, the students used all the other elements and principles as they created their art, says Lewis.
