The team is hosting the first Reindeer Games track meet to provide food and funds to those in need through Thermal Belt Outreach.Athletes and spectators are encouraged to wear a Santa hat or some reindeer ears as they support a good cause. The meet will take place at Polk County High School at 4 p.m. today.Polk coach Alan Peoples says he hopes it will become an annual event to help support Outreachs efforts during the holiday season.Peoples says he plans to wear a Santa suit or hat, and other coaches are planning to dress up some as well. Polk will be joined at the meet by several area teams, including East Henderson, West Henderson and Hendersonville high schools. Each athlete participating in the meet will contribute a can of food or $2 as an entry fee, and spectators are asked to bring a can of food or $5. Both the food and money will be given to Thermal Belt Outreach. While the event is designed to support Outreach and raise awareness about those in need, it is also an official high school track meet. Qualifying times, heights, and distances will count for state qualifying.
