Construction for Landrums North Randolph Street sidewalk project could begin in late spring, 2010.Landrum City Administrator Steve Wolochowicz told council members during a work session Tuesday that survey work is currently being done and that he recently signed a contract for the work to begin.Landrum received a $200,000 S.C. Department of Transportation Enhancement grant this year to complete as much of the project as possible. Estimates to construct a sidewalk along the entire street at one time were $469,000. City officials were thinking the project might have to be done in stages, but since receiving the grant officials have expressed hope that the whole street can be done. The city will have to match the grant with $50,000 and Spartanburg County also granted the city $50,000. Wolochowicz told council Tuesday that construction is scheduled to begin in late spring of 2010.The sidewalk will be installed on the left side of the road as travelers go up the N. Randolph hill, officials explained.
