Lady Cardinals top Polk 48-42

Amber Whiteside hit a slew of shots Friday night to lead the Landrum Lady Cardinals to a 48-42 home win to avenge last Fridays loss at Polk County.
Elizabeth Edmondson contributed some critical points in the paint which Landrum head coach Roy Parton called, “the focus of our work.” Rosaruth Parton showed some grit in leading her team from the point.
The first quarter deficit could have been 14-8 had a half-court buzzer beating attempt hit for Landrum in time, but it was just a touch too late.
Landrum seemed to know where they wanted the ball to go, and got it there more often than not despite the Lady Wolverine full court defensive pressure.
That press was instituted after Landrum doubled Polk Countys point total of eight points early in the second quarter.
The Lady Wolverine defense couldnt seem to stay close enough to Whiteside, who finished with a game-high 20 points and connected on two 3-pointers.
Landrum also got 11 points from Edmondson, nine points from Jordan Jenkins, four points from Rosaruth Parton, three points from Ashley Hartsell and one point from Jenny Ann Parton.
Polk was led by Brittany Phipps with 17 points, followed by Haley Price with 11, Jamie Hrobak with six, Cassidy Mazzilli with four, Melinda Morgan with three and Sammy Mazzilli with one.
The Lady Cardinals improved to 5-3 with the win, while the Lady Wolverines dropped to 2-4.
Landrum is home again on Friday against Greenville Tech Charter. The Wolverines play on the road tonight and tomorrow night before returning home for a conference matchup against Mountain Heritage on Friday.
