Western Carolina Community Action (WCCA), a non-profit agency in Hendersonville, is opening an Early Head Start program in Lynn.

Early Head Start provides comprehensive child care and home-based services for pregnant women and children under three who are income eligible. A family of four qualifies if its annual income is less than $22,000.

According to WCCA spokesperson Susan Bullard, the WCCA Early Head Start center will be located in four office spaces in the Valley Plaza strip mall shopping center in Lynn. &bsp;

One space will be used for WCCA Early Head Start offices, and two spaces will be used for child care. The program provides six hours of child care for free to eligible families. The fourth office will be classroom space for the home-based teachers, who will visit pregnant women and children in their homes and bring children back to the classroom for socialization with other children.

The WCCA Columbus Childrens Center will be open sometime toward the end of January and will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (following licensing to expand to 2:30 p.m.)

For more information, contact Susan Bullard, (828) 693-1711 ext. 134.

WCCA has served Transylvania and Henderson counties since 1960, administering government grants to run Head Start, Early Head Start and Section 8 Housing programs. Bullard said stimulus funds made possible the expansion to Polk County.
