Published 2:36 pm Monday, December 14, 2009
The Chapman Cultural Center will show six famous movies during January and February as part of its film seriesThe Peoples Choice: Hollywood Classics.
The movies to be screened at 7 p.m. are:
Gone with the Wind Fri., Jan. 8
Citizen Kane Tues., Jan. 19
The Wizard of Oz Fri., Jan. 29
Singing in the Rain Fri., Feb. 5
Casablanca Sat., Feb. 13
North by Northwest Fri., Feb. 26
The movies were chosen by popular vote on the Chapman Cultural Centers website. We did have to substitute two of the films because we could not get the rights to the original choices, Perry Mixter, President of The Arts Partnership, said. We could not get The Sound of Music nor Psycho, so we got Casablanca and North by Northwest instead. At least we were able to get another Hitchcock movie, and who doesnt want to see Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca just in time for Valentines Day?
Probably the biggest attraction to this series is that fact that not many people have ever seen any of these movies on the big screen, Mixter said. Movies like Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz were made for a big screennot your home television screen.
Recently, the Chapman Cultural Center bought a new movie screen, measuring 12 feet high by 21 feet wide.
