Memories of the Decade 2000: Jim Cockmans tragic death story of decade

Published 4:26 pm Tuesday, December 8, 2009

I agree with you that the tragic death of Jim Cockman was the story of the decade…and what a shock it was. On the other side of the coin, I think the most encouraging story was the one that reported the purchase of Lake Adger by the County Commissioners. I think we will not face a bigger, more serious issue than the need for abundant, clean water here in Polk over the next decade.

The biggest change I have observed over the last few years is the continuing destruction of our forests, mountain ridges, and rivers…not just here in Polk but around the world. Our earth…our home… cannot sustain itself, and sustain our growing population, against such an onslaught.
