The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for hundreds of thousands of temporary employees nationwide, including many in Western North Carolina, Congressman Heath Shuler (D-Waynesville) announced today.
The census bureau is hiring for five and ten week short-term assignments to complete the 2010 census. Census takers conduct interviews and record responses. Other temporary jobs are available, including managers, recruiting assistants and census clerks.
While these jobs are only temporary, this is an opportunity for many individuals to get work at a time when jobs are difficult to find, said Congressman Shuler. Additionally, gathering data for the 2010 census is important because it affects how much federal money is distributed to our local schools, hospitals and governments.
