Polk, Landrum battle on hardwood tonight

Polk County and Landrum will renew their border rivalry&bsp; tonight for the first time in the new 2009-2010 basketball season.Polk County hosts tonights games with JV girls beginning at 4 p.m., followed by JV boys at 5:30 p.m., varsity girls at 6:30 p.m. and varsity boys at 8 p.m. Its the first home game of the year for the Wolverines.The Polk County varsity boys will be looking for their first win after falling to East Henderson and RS Central in their first two games of the season.On Tuesday, Polk nearly toppled East, taking the Eagles to overtime before falling 61-58 in the non-conference game. Senior Jeffery Bontrager led Polk County in scoring with 10 points. Polk also got eight points each from Landon Schlabach and Shawn Gary.The following night at RS Central, Polk could not stay as close. The Hilltoppers ran away with a 68-42 win. The Polk varsity girls earned a 40-32 win over East Henderson in their first game of the year. Melinda Morgan had a double-double for Polk, registering 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Cassidy Mazzilli contributed eight points and nine rebounds. The Lady Wolverines used their advantage on the boards to control the game.At RS-Central, Polk County fell behind early and could not rally, losing 55-38.
