U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC) has been criticized for his connection to healthcare lobbyists with biotechnology firm Genentech, a subsidiary of the Roche pharmaceutical company. Shuler, who voted against the health care overhaul bill recently in the U.S. House, entered information provided by Genentech into the Congressional Record. According to Shuler’s spokesman Doug Abrahms, Shuler was made aware of an issue by Genentech and was providing the information to the Congressional Record with the aim of protecting North Carolina jobs. Critics have said Shuler should not submit information from lobbyists for the record.
