Locals learn about the Virginia Creeper Trail

Recently a delegation from Landrum and Polk County travelled to Abingdon, Va. to learn how they created The Virginia Creeper Trail. Interested leaders from local towns along our rail corridor plus several individuals from the county participated on the trip. A few of the group rode on nine miles of the 34 mile Virginia Creeper Trail. They were Mary Smith, Steve Wolochowicz, Melinda Young, Dave Herbert, Beth Minnick (their trail guide from Abingdon), Kipp McIntyre and John Morgan. The entire group met with town officials from Abingdon and Damascus, Va., two towns that benefited from the creation of the trail in the late 1970s. (photo submitted)
