Published 4:05 pm Tuesday, November 17, 2009
We are singing the Messiah you and I at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Thursday, December 3.
Tryon Fine Arts Center is promising the sounds of an oratorio to be heard from a chorus of singers and instrumentalists as we enter the holiday season.
TFAC is featuring these soloists singing the familiar recitatives and airs of the Messiah:
Rita Stobbe, soprano; vocal coach, opera and musical theater performer, member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church and its sanctuary choir.
Elaine Jenkins, soprano; voice student of Rita Stobbe, past president of the Tryon Fine Arts Center and the Foothills Music Club.
Patti Peake, mezzo soprano, alto; Tryons musical legend and star performer in numerous Tryon Little Theater musical theater productions, soloist at the Congregational Church, an artist in folk singing and accordian playing.
Richard Kennedy, tenor; retired college choral director and educator with degrees in music and vocal performance, music director in numerous churches, presently director of the Tryon Presbyterian Church sanctuary choir where he and his wife are members.
Robert Linder, bass; a 40 year career in the performing arts in New York City including concert stage, churches, synagogues, film, television, musical theater and twenty years in the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera.
All of these performers are local residents.
TFAC is encouraging everyone to share the Glory of the Lord in Handels timeless setting of the Messiah. The Hallelujah Chorus is the anticipated finale of this Christmas tradition.
We are singing the Messiah you and I at the TFAC, Thursday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. No rehearsal. Complete scores available.
