Lake Adger purchase a good deal, for the developers

To the Editor:
How many people who live in Polk County dont have running water? The county is planning to buy the Lake Adger dam and lake bed for future water rights for $1.6 million. The dam needs $2 million worth of repairs over the next four years (that figure will double).
Liability insurance on the dam is going to be $50,000 a year. A plan for the future? Bring in industry for high paying jobs? I doubt that when Boeing went searching for a location for its new airliner assembly plant that it came down to either Charleston or Polk County, most industry is leaving the United States for Mexico and China, cheap labor, little or nonexistent environmental standards.
Polk County has an industry, its been a place for Yankees to retire for as long as Ive lived here (50 years). Yankees on horses, Yankees playing golf, whatever.
If the developer of the Lake Adger area could get the taxpayers to guarantee that the Lake Adger dam and lake would always exist, wouldnt it be easier for him to get investors onboard? Who would want to invest in lake front property without a lake? Not so sure if this is a good investment for the Polk County taxpayer but it sure is for the Lake Adger land developers.
