For the holiday season the Upstairs Artspace presents two exhibits, The Spiritual Image in Contemporary Art and Presents of Art, opening November 13 with a reception Saturday, November 14, 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibits continue through December 24.
Almost 60 craft artists are participating in Presents, which celebrates the exciting diversity of Carolina crafts. There are many things available – jewelry, scarves, glass and ceramic art, birdhouses, toys, paper products, soap, purses, mirrors, vintage accessories, books, woodturning, and much more.
Many craft artists will be new to Upstairs patrons. A special shopping night for men only is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Spiritual Image presents dramatic interpretations of spirituality in painting and sculpture by well-known regional artists. They are G. Carol Bomer, Katherine McIver, Asheville; Dale McEntire, Saluda; Teresa Prater, Campobello, S.C.; Julia Stout, Brad Stroman, Tekla, Black Mountain. The exhibit speaks a powerful and hopeful message of the spirituality of this treasured earth, says McEntire, who is curator along with Tekla.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 828-859-2828 for information.
