Tricks and Treats: Several events scheduled for Halloween

Tryon Halloween Stroll

Tryon will hold its Halloween Stroll tonight from 5-6 p.m. Businesses will be open for trick or treating on Trade, Pacolet and Maple streets. A costume contest for ages 12 and under will be held at Rogers Park at 6:15 p.m.

The Landrum stroll will take place on Rutherford Street and Trade Avenue on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. Trick or treat with area merchants along Rutherford Street and Trade Ave.

There will be carnival games on Trade Ave., a fortune teller, hay rides from First Citizens Bank starting at at 6 p.m. and a storyteller at the spooky fire at the depot, sponsored by Landrum Area Business Association.

A costume contest will be held at the Landrum Fire Station with the following age categories:&bsp; 0-3, 4-7, 8-10 and 11-13.

A jack-o-lantern contest will be held at the Mail Room on&bsp; Trade Ave. Bring your carved pumpkins to be judged.

Polk Red Cross First &39;Dark Wood Hollow Haunted Trail&39;

&uot;The Dark Woods are filled with strange and unusual characters. No one has dared to enter these woods until now. For one month the locals of this dangerous area will allow the public to tour their own little world&ellip;. The world of the forgotten tales and maniac misfits.&uot;

The Dark Wood Hollow Trail of Terror, provided by the Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross, continues on Friday and Saturday. Proceeds will go to benefit the operations fund.

Guests will enter the welcome center and be supplied with a tour guide. Wander through the road kill caf´ and into the butcher shop to see what the locals like to eat. Take a stroll through the town and see the life they live, where their offspring play, and how they keep out the rest of the world. The tour guide will take you into the Dark Hollow where the realm of evil waits by Christopher Creek. This is where you will see the darkest of characters from your childhood&ellip;. The Dark Hollow is filled with so much fear and terror that even the misfits will not enter.

The trail is located at 875 Christopher Road, Campobello. The trail will open at dark and close at midnight.

Haunted Tryon Ghost Tours

Adam Wood is leading the Tryon Haunted Ghost Tours with the help of Brook Hannon and Margaret Feagan of the Bountiful Neighborhood Education, Scientific and Cultural organization (BnESCO) of Tryon.

Wood is partnering with BnESCO, which is supporting the tours with an entrepreneur venture grant to cover start-up costs. Tickets can be purchased at Lilac Wine in Tryon.&bsp; Reservations are not required but are recommended. &bsp;

Tours will begin at 8 p.m Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 12 (extended as needed depending on popularity and weather). Tours are rain or shine.

Once participants buy their ticket at Lilac Wine, they will be directed to meet at the clock tower at 8 p.m. Wood will begin the tour after everyone signs a release and ascends the Tryon stairs. The tour heads around through the Depot Garden and crosses Pacolet Street. It turns left on Chestnut and right on Melrose Avenue and up to lower Melrose Circle – then up the steps across from the Congregational Church – then back down Melrose and left on Pacolet Street around through Uptown and to Morris. It then crosses Trade Street, goes down to a left on Palmer and around to Stott&squo;s Ford, then left on Trade and ends at the Lilac Wine.
