A virus has recently affected many individuals living in Polk County and other areas in North and South Carolina. Although there are presently no upper respiratory manifestations nor fever associated with this virus, individuals are exhibiting gastrointestinal like symptoms. Tryon Estates, a Continuing Care Retirement Community located in Columbus, has had some residents affected by this virus. Fortunately, less than 10 percent of the resident population at Tryon Estates has been affected. &bsp; However, Tryon Estates says its staff has been vigilant in instituting and maintaining precautionary measures to prevent further transmission of this virus. The staff at Tryon Estates continues to educate both staff and residents on the importance of diligent and frequent proper hand washing techniques. &bsp; &uot;We are currently working with the County Health Department to determine the cause. No additional confirmations of new cases have been reported today,&uot; according to sources from Tryon Estates.
