Councilman Ricky McCallister said the town could obtain a piece of equipment from a military branch. He said the equipment could be almost anything military related, including a gun or larger munition, or even a helicopter, although space would not allow that in Columbus.
Town officials said the survey will cost the town about $300 for postage. Officials also said they&squo;d look into liability clauses with the town&squo;s insurance because of the display&39;s possible danger to children.
Saluda had a similar discussion recently and plans to revisit the issue in September. Mixed emotions were expressed about placing military equipment in the Saluda veteran&squo;s park. Some said it would be an honor and others did not like the idea of weaponry being placed downtown.
