State approves bill giving extension to developers

The Polk County Planning Board is no longer working on a new ordinance to give relief to developers due to the recession. North Carolina on Aug. 5 passed SB 831/HB 1490 into law. The law, SL 2009-406, stops the clock for developers who have gained preliminary or master plan approval. However much time the developer had left until deadline for final plat approval as of Jan. 1, 2008, the clock will now start over on Jan. 1, 2010. Polk gives developers two years between preliminary and final plat approval and then construction must begin.
