Eleven candidates have filed so far for fall municipal elections

McCallister joins Michael Gage and Margaret Metcalf,&bsp; also current council members up for re-election. Columbus Mayor Kathleen McMillian is also up for re-election, but has not yet filed. Newcomer Ernie Kan has also filed to run for a council seat in Columbus

In Tryon, the only person to file to run so far is Mayor Alan Peoples. The council seats of Jim Scott and Dennis Durham are also open this year.

In Saluda, incumbent Mayor Rodney Gibson will be challenged by newcomer Fred Baisden. Incumbent council members Johnnie Kinard and Laura Fields have also signed up to run as well as challengers George Sweet and Hop Foster.

This year&squo;s municipal election will be held on Nov. 3.

The filing period for council and mayoral seats in Polk County will end Friday, July 17 at noon. Candidates can file at the Polk County Board of Elections Office at the Womack building in Columbus.
