N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue announced on Wednesday the awarding of 31 contracts across the state, totaling $73 million for highways and bridges. Of the total, 11 contracts were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or stimulus money, although none of those listed are in Polk County. Polk&squo;s road projects are part of the state&39;s annual resurfacing of its secondary roads.
Some of Polk County&squo;s secondary road projects were&bsp; part of a $1.4 million contract awarded to Moore & Son Site Contractors, Inc., out of Mills River. The projects for that contract include 14.8 miles of 16 secondary roads near the towns of Hendersonville, Brevard and Columbus.
Work is scheduled to start as early as July 27 on that contract, with the project completion date set of Oct. 31.
Work is currently being done on Houston Road in preparation for the resurfacing work.
