&dquo;I want to get Landrum back to the state championship level,&dquo; said Brown. &dquo;That&squo;s what we&squo;re going to work for.&dquo;

Athletic director John Cann introduced Brown as &dquo;someone that knows our community, can relate well with our parents, and certainly, we&squo;re confident that he knows the game of baseball.&dquo;

Brown, a Spartanburg native, played for Dorman High and later at Spartanburg Methodist College in the 1970s. He has coached baseball on different levels for the past 20 years, most recently at the Campobello-Gramling School, where he helped start its baseball program.

&dquo;Coaching high school baseball is something I&squo;ve always wanted to get into,&dquo; said Brown. &dquo;I&squo;ve coached travel ball and softball and had success with that. I always thought it would be great to coach here.&dquo;

&dquo;We had legitimate candidates from as far away as Pennsylvania and Virginia,&dquo; said Cann. &dquo;Going through the interview process, we already knew about coach Brown. He&squo;s very well-respected in District One.&dquo;

Brown, who will teach social studies at Landrum, steps in for interim coach Donald Miller, last year&squo;s Region II-1A coach of the year.
