Hemphill named WHC Athlete of the Year

&bsp;Seven ballots were handed in by conference voters, and Hemphill was either first or second on each one.

During her career at PCHS, she was a four-year all-conference golfer, a four-year all-conference soccer defender and captain for the state championship team, as well as starting for three of her four years on the varsity women&squo;s basketball team.

&dquo;Mary is a leader,&dquo; said Polk athletic director Jeff Wilson. &dquo;She is a very dominant player in our conference, which has some elite, next-level type athletes. She&squo;s worked very hard, and we&squo;re really proud of her as an athlete and as a person.&dquo;

Hemphill will continue her athletic career at Converse College, where she has committed to play soccer.
