Samuel Jones White

He was born in Polk County August 8, 1923, son of the late Berlin L. and Sally Williams White.

Mr. White was a WW II Marine Corps veteran and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from Johnson Motor Lines and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local # 71. His greatest joys in retirement were his two granddaughters. Mr. White was a devoted father and grandfather and brother and will be missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill Tench, Torrence and Roone and five sisters, Stella, Blanche, Meredith, Mabel and Madge.

Surviving are his son, Jerry L. White and his wife Na`Nette of Monroe, NC; daughter, Phyllis W. Rea of Charlotte, NC; brother, Heinie Y. White of Columbus, NC and his granddaughters, April D. White of Charlotte, N.C., and Ashley N. White of Charleston, S.C., and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Unit B at Sardis Oaks for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Mr. White.

Funeral services for Mr. White will be held in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4013 New Town Rd., Waxhaw, N.C. 28173.
