Commissioners quickly agreed that they could not afford to construct a new building for adult daycare, but there are two possible locations already located in the county, one at Carolina Classical School and another at the Green Creek Family Life Center, which family life center officials have agreed to renovate and allow a provider to use.
Commissioners agreed to try to get a state official to visit both facilities at Green Creek and the former Carolina Classical School and tell the county what needs to be done to upgrade each building to meet adult daycare code.
Polk County is in the process of purchasing the former Carolina Classical School property and is renovating the main building to serve as its new senior recreation facility. Commissioners have not yet decided whether to use the rear building as a gym for the senior facility or to use it as an adult daycare center. All commissioners have noted the county&squo;s great need for an adult daycare, with many seniors spending days alone while their children work.
Rutherford Life Services runs an adult daycare in Rutherford County, and Community Health Connections is a local homecare agency affiliated with St. Luke&squo;s Hospital.
