He was a native of Hendersonville and moved to Shelby in 1985 after retiring from the Kimberly Clark Corp.

He proudly served his country during World War II. Upon returning home from service, he married Myrtle Greer and they have been married for 60 years. He was an active and devoted member of Balfour United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Harrison Pruitt Sr., and Gladys Owens Pruitt; a sister, Betty Brown; and a brother, Harold Pruitt.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Greer Pruitt of the home; two daughters, Pamela Kay Pruitt of Shelby, and Greer Pruitt Dalton of Shelby; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Norman Pruitt of Hendersonville and Gerald Pruitt of Saluda; and a sister, Sybil Laughter of Lexington.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24 at Balfour United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. A private interment will be held in Shelby at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, N.C. 28150, to the American Heart Association, 222 S. Church St., Suite 303, Charlotte, N.C. 28202, or to the charity of the donor&squo;s choice. Condolences can be left at www.claybarnette.com.
