Polk County residents speak against Columbus ETJ plan

Three county residents on Monday urged Polk County commissioners not to allow the Town of Columbus extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) rights. David Maxwell, Lisa Krokack and David Weiss all said they are against the town zoning their areas. Commissioners Tommy Melton responded that he has not changed his mind on the issue and is against the town having ETJ rights because citizens in the ETJ area do not have a say in the change. Columbus is currently planning to send surveys to 1,324 residences in the proposed ETJ area to get opinions on the issue.
