Polk softball shutout in conference opener

Patriot pitcher Laurel Gregg threw a complete game shutout, giving up only two hits on the day. She walked three batters but also struck out 12.

Polk starter Jamie Hrobak pitched five scoreless innings, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the third.&bsp; The final score was 3-0. Madison (6-0) is undefeated so far this season.

The two Polk hits came from seniors Kayla Byrd and Denise Edwards. Byrd also drew a walk. Through eight games, her batting average is a remarkable .630, with seven stolen bases and nine runs scored. Edwards&squo; is hitting .464 with 11 RBIs.
