Polk County not included on road funding list

Polk County will not be receiving any of the federal stimulus money going to roads and bridges in Western North Carolina. The list of projects to receive funding was released this week. In N.C. Department of Transportation Division 14, which includes Polk County, five projects are expected to receive funding, including replacement of a bridge in Cherokee County, installation and repairs to a guardrail on N.C. 215 in Transylvania County, pavement rehabilitation on U.S. 176 in Henderson County, pavement rehabilitation on U.S. 74 in Swain County and installation of paved shoulders on U.S. 276 in Transylvania County. A total of $16.44 million of stimulus funding has been allocated for Division 14.
