The Mimosa Inn in Lynn has requested voluntary annexation into the city limits of Tryon.

Tryon Town Council met Tuesday and certified the sufficiency of the petition and set a public hearing for the board&squo;s next meeting on March 17.

The petition was made by owners Jim and Stephanie Ott, who recently opened a restaurant at the Inn and have said they may wish to serve alcohol. Polk County is dry, but the towns of Tryon, Saluda and Columbus do allow the sell of alcohol.

If approved, the annexation if would be non-contiguous, or a satellite annexation with the property not being situated directly next to city limits.

The town is only allowed to satellite annex 10 percent of its cooperate limits. The Mimosa Inn property contains 6.23 acres.

The public hearing next month will begin at 7 p.m. at the Tryon Fire Department.
