A Union native, he was the husband of Christine Byrd Boler of the home and son of Alice Boler of Spartanburg, S.C. He was a member of Jeter Chapel A.M.E. Church, a 1963 graduate of Sims High School and was retired from Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include three daughters, Lisa Sims of Santuc, S.C., Eunice Byrd Thompson of Atlanta, Ga., and Debra Hill Hunter of Santuc; two sons, Leon Byrd of Carlisle and Calvin Hill of Spartanburg; a half-sister, Azalee Cannon of Tryon; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Jeter Chapel A.M.E. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Members of the Sims High School Class of 1963 are asked to serve as floral and casket bearers.

The Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home of Union, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
