Polk school board honors Pullara for earning first chair in state orchestra

Geoffrey Tennant, chairman of the Polk BOE, presents Polk High senior Benny Pullara with a plaque honoring him for earning first chair in the prestigious North Carolina Honors Orchestra. Pullara was selected for the top slot among the four best high school trumpet players in North Carolina and performed with the orchestra during its concert in November at the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Before receiving his award, Pullara, who was joined by his father, Joe, and band director Cindy Gilbert, played a selection from Handel&39;s &uot;Messiah&uot; for the board. (photo submitted)
