Judge Mark E. Powell issued the sentence Friday and the decision was appealed to the N.C. Court of Appeals. Parker will remain in Polk County custody under his current $300,000 bond until the court of appeals determines whether there were any errors in the case.
Parker was found guilty of stabbing his wife, Bridget Kelley, on Dec. 29, 2007. Parker was charged with stabbing Kelley once in the hand, once in the face and once in the back.
Parker was also sentenced last Friday to 93 to 121 months at the N.C. Department of Corrections for his conviction on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, but Judge Powell arrested that sentence, meaning Parker will not serve any time for that charge, according to the Polk County Clerk of Courts Office.
