In the spirit of Christmas and basketball season, the Service Learning class at Landrum High School combined the two to raise money for the Landrum VFW.

On Thursday night last week, the Service Learning class served the Landrum VFW a meal and presented them with a $150 donation.They raised the money through a program called &dquo;Hoops for Troops.&dquo; Students donated money to be able to go down to the school gym and shoot around.

Service Learning is a classs that provides a service for the community. Parton is one of several teachers in the program.

&dquo;We really have enjoyed doing projects to help the veterans in recent years,&dquo; Parton said.

In addition, the VFW had something to give to three of the Landrum students. Jordan Jenkins, Hope Stewart and Dakota DePalma were given checks for winning the &dquo;In the Voice of Democracy&dquo; essay contest.
