Lying beneath a stone marker at the Landrum Masonic Lodge was a piece of history.

That history was unearthed last Saturday as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the lodge.

The time capsule that was opened Saturday contained newspapers from 1958, a list of the lodge members at that time, a roll of pennies, two silver dollars and a number of lodge books.

Members of the lodge opened the building&squo;s doors on Saturday and allowed people attending the Landrum Christmas stroll to come in and see the historical items.

Although the lodge is celebrating 100 years, the current lodge building has been in existence only since 1958. The cornerstone with the time capsule was placed to celebrate the new building.

The Landrum lodge came together as the Campobello and Gowensville lodges merged and bought the building across from Landrum City Hall.

There are plans to rededicate the lodge on Saturday, Dec. 13. Food will be served at 11:30 a.m. The dedication ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.

In the new time capsule, members say they will place the items from the old time capsule plus some new items, which they say will probably include current newspapers and money.

The event will be open to the public.
