To have more than one is an extraordinary accomplishment.
The seniors for the Landrum volleyball team can now say that theyve accomplished something extraordinary as a high school athlete.
Jordan Corn, Molly Corn, Sarah Bruce and Erica Doty all have won three state championships. Morgan Williams has won two.
Not a lot of athletes can say that, head coach Denise Riske said.
And as they celebrated the Lady Cardinals third straight state volleyball championship, these girls had a slightly bigger smile than everyone else.
They were finishing their high school volleyball careers as champions.
Its a great way to end your senior year, Bruce said. Its a pretty great accomplishment.
After all, its rewarding to win a state championship, but to cap your career off with one is even better, Jordan Corn said.
As a senior, to get that privilege is an honor, she said.
The true value of the journey, however, can be found at the start. When the players think back to their sophomore year three years ago.
In that year, Landrum was still coming up just short every year to Southside Christian. Those days are long gone as the Lady Cardinals have dominated that series the last three years.
I think we all wanted it, but we didnt expect it, Molly Corn said.
They may not have expected it, but it all came. All the glory has fallen on Landrum in the last three years en route to three straight state championships.
And now Riskes team will look a lot different next season as this group of seniors moves on out.
It will be a completely different team, she said. I have enjoyed coaching these ladies for the last four years.
The one thing that these seniors will be leaving with for sure, is an extensive knowledge of winning.
All five of these players have seen nothing but success as Lady Cardinal players.
