Ruth Wallace

A native of McDowell County, N.C., she was the widow of William Walter Wallace and the daughter of the late Joseph Mills and Elizabeth Cochran Cochrane.&bsp; She graduated from South Mountain Industrial Institute in Bostic, N.C. in 1925. She was a member of the Columbus Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Bible Study, and the Peniel Circle. She loved flowers, reading and bingo.

Survivors include her son, William Ladson Wallace and wife Ann of Bellingham, Wash., two daughters, Betty Wallace Powell of Spartanburg, S.C., and Ann Wallace Fisher of Columbus. Six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was also survived by a brother, James Abner Cochrane, 90, of Prescott, Ariz.. She was predeceased by four sisters and five brothers.

A memorial service will be held at Columbus Presbyterian Church, Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ralph Kuether. Visitation in Charter Hall after the service. Memorials may be made to Columbus Presbyterian Church, 102 Peniel Rd., Columbus, N.C. 28722, or to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Dr., Columbus, N.C.&bsp; 28722. The family is at the home of Ann Fisher, 112 Holly Hill Drive, Columbus.
