Wolfe, a Polk County junior, became the 2008 Western Higlands Conference cross country champion on October 16 at Owen High’s course at Black Mountain Recreation Park. With 100 yards to go down the sideline of the Montreat College soccer filed, Wolfe called on his ever-present God-given sprint that he seems to turn on at will to edge the competition.
Wolfe ran 17:30, followed by teammates: Noah Hall 18:47, Nick Hehner 20:18, Ricky Mozquedo 20:32, Kyle Brown and Flynn Chapman 21:15, Kelby Orr 22:43, Cabell Brand 23:17, Eric Lauer 23:45, Josh Kujawa 24:45, Cameron Brown 24:55, Cameron Hoots 26:20, Sam Vining 28:33.
Polk’s first female finisher, Cabot Lee Petoia ran the 3.1 miles in 23:54, followed by teammates: Erica Sheehan 24:16, Rebecca Elliott 25:21, Kari Malkki 25:24, Michele Glynn 25:25, Sarah Costine 25:51, Abigail Hall and Risa Koenig 25:58, Emily Brady 27:31, Jamie Hrobak 29:28, Anna Koenig 30:33, Megan Carmona 34:16.
The Wolverines are in action on Saturday in the Western Regional Finals at Jackson Park, Hendersonville.
