Fire destroys inside of Crossroads cafe in Green Creek

The first firefighter arrived about two minutes after the call came in and flames were coming out the window by that time, according to Randolph. The Green Creek Fire Department, along with the Columbus, Mill Spring and New Prospect Fire Departments fought the fire. There were several other local departments who provided standby, including Saluda, Tryon and Cooley Springs. The Polk County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross also responded. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined, Randolph said. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was called in to investigate the cause and spent most of Sunday on the premises with the Green Creek Fire Department. Crossroads is located on Hwy. 9 just after it intersects with Highway 14 in Green Creek.
