He was a Vietnam War veteran and served in the nuclear sub fleet.
He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Marshall Capps; parents, Forest and Mae Capps; and a brother, William Capps.
Survivors include a son, Corey Capps of Tuxedo; a daughter, Christina Camp of Green Creek; four grandchildren, Colby Capps, Shekinah, Cherith and Keilah Camp; seven sisters, Barbara Head of Tuxedo, Jean Pace of Saluda, Joanne Morgan of Saluda, Norma Emory of Saluda, Glenda Ray and of Sanderson, Texas, Dianne Buckner of Hendersonville, Gretka Wallen of Tuxedo; a brother, Xander Capps of Flat Rock; a sister-in-law, Tressie Capps of Tuxedo; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at Maranatha Baptist Church in East Flat Rock, with a memorial service immediately following. The Rev. Lewis Staton will officiate.
The family will be at the home of his son, Corey Capps, 1076 Green River Road, Zirconia.
