He was a construction worker.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lanning Alvarado, daughter, Vaylie Alavarado, and son, Gabriel Alvarado. Also, his father, Walter Douglas Short of Elizabeth City, N.C., mother, Linda Short of Mill Spring, three sisters, Brandy K. Stevens of Iowa, Rebecca Short of Mill Spring, and Candy Alvarado of Nebraska, and a brother, Justin Alvarado of Nebraska.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Crowe&squo;s Mortuary, Rutherfordton. There will be a memorial service at following at 5 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Orr and Rev. Dwayne Pruitt officiating.
